I don’t know what went wrong. My Mom saw an ad for a National Organization for Women event in Princeton in 1969 and went along without knowing what it would all be about. She became passionately involved in her group, and ended being involved in feminist groups and Women’s Studies for the next decade or so. The women she met back then came from many racial backgrounds, and my Mom said everyone came together in a common cause in a way she had never experienced before. They went to the 1970 women’s march together and organized many letter writing campaigns and asked for meetings with people in power whom they wanted to challenge on their lack of inclusion of females. Anyone who showed up had an equal voice in their meetings.
