I have to laugh (gently) at my 15 year old self who thought she was very mature for her age. She/I loved “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” and did not once think the of the Woods as Death. Even though she/I understood “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.”

I also didn’t know about Frost’s tragic life. I love that he says, “It goes on.” It reminds me of my Mother’s attitude. She has much more of a faith in humanity and the world to turn out all right in the end than I have. She lived through World War II and lots of other things, including personal tragedies, and she still has within her “an invincible summer,” her favorite quotation. I don’t have that. I have a deep ongoing anxiety about the world and my place in it. I am already starting to think about losing my Mother and wondering if I will survive that. I am perhaps unconsciously looking for words like Frost’s that give me examples of people who were able to go on.

Sorry I made this comment all about me. It was a wonderful essay. I want to know more about Frost now. I’ll also look out for your other writings.
