I think a lot of non-trans people now accept that trans men have always felt themselves to be men despite their biological sex, and trans women have always felt they were women, and that everyone has the right to live and present as the gender they want in society. It is rude and ugly to deliberately refer to a trans woman as “he.” We accept that trans men and women put effort, anxiety, overarching desire, sometimes painful and radical surgical procedures, and thousands of dollars into making themselves present as who they are. What is confusing, though, is when a trans man who has committed so fully to a male identity and role in society then decides to get pregnant, something that seems to revert to a female biological role. Even those of us who are 100% supportive of a trans man or woman’s transition can be confused by this. Likewise those in the trans community who say things like, “If a trans woman has a penis, the penis is now a female organ (‘ladydick’.)” No, this is going too far.
