I think VR has absolutely fascinating potential if the makers do something interesting with it. I don’t think porn is that interesting, and especially not for VR. Why not make VR where you make it possible to go back in time, into worlds and cultures that have vanished? I would love that. Why not make it possible for a non-mountain climber to have the experience of climbing a mountain, with pitons and ropes and having to swing out over sheer cliffs? Why not allow you to feel what it’s like to walk on the moon or some other fantasy scape where you can jump 20 feet easily and run up cliffs and breathe underwater? In fact, why not make it possible to explore the deep seas without drowning? Or to sail as a mate on a famous Napoleonic warship? Or explore a cave when in real life you would be terrified of the small enclosed spaces? Go back and be present at extraordinary historic events?
Or just to be able to fly. FLY! Fly over your own house and around your town, fly out at night and see scenes below in real time shot by a drone that is fed into your perspective?
The other commenter, Sean, has a point — if you want something that isn’t being built, learn to build it yourself. That is a tall task if you are not particularly technical, though for me having those abilities would be a dream come true.
