It was explained to me early on (I think I was in my teens) that calling a black person “articulate” was offensive because white people say it as if it’s a surprise. So even if a black person is exceptionally well spoken I won’t use it, even though I would for an exceptionally articulate white person. And no, it doesn’t sway me to vote for someone. If anything, it can make someone sound a bit too glib and phony.
