Not to mention a whole other cohort of white people who aren't even allies at all who are taking advantage of the moment to create chaos and destruction mostly because they enjoy it and because they want to break down all of society and replace it with anarchy. There have always been these opportunists looking to glom onto protests (“Let’s go out and crack some heads! Frick the police!”) so they can have cover for wreaking havoc. A few may even fool themselves that this is helping BLM in some way or showing solidarity, but deep down they know the dishonesty of their position. I know because I went to Berkeley 1987–1991 and these people were already in full swing with this behavior when I got there. I saw up close how certain people would show up to any and every protest about any and every issue, not because they knew and understood each of the issues being protested and wanted to support them, but because they wanted to be in the maelstrom and add some of their own chaos. It is so disingenuous and it repulsed me both then and now.
