Thank you! I can’t watch anything that’s set in a past decade I lived through now because it’s some kind of distorted, hyperreal version of the past that I don’t recognize. What happens is I end up watching the story for the story but without the 70s, 80s or 90s context because my brain doesn’t recognize it as such. Or I embarrass myself by watching a whole series without even realizing it was supposed to be set in the past.

Also, people looking back on a time they didn’t live through will tend to exaggerate some details way beyond their significance at the time because those things have shown up in a lot of films and tv from the time. This doesn’t mean they were accurate to daily life in the 1980s.

If I ever make my own films I’ll keep your info around! It sounds like you would be really good at keeping things accurate down to the detail.
