This reminds me of a fellow grad student who was in the same graduate student teaching program I was in. We had the same supervisor and we met with her once a week to talk about experiences teaching freshman Reading & Composition. This other female grad student was a devout Catholic and she was complaining that in a comparative Christianity seminar she was attending that people were allowed to do something as offensive as questioning the Holy Trinity. She wanted the professor to ban the class from being able to question the Trinity. I told her that if she did it would transform the seminar from an academic endeavor to a religious one, and therefore would have no place in a University setting. Academe by definition allows all ideas to be put up for debate. There are no intellectual fetters or restrictions, only the strength or weakness of the evidence and one's arguments.
